Twente looking to get back on track

FC Twente will be keen to bounce back from their Champions League setback at Tottenham when they welcome FC Groningen to Enschede on Sunday.

Twente coach Michel Preud'homme saw his side go down 4-1 at White Hart Lane with three penalties awarded to the home team - two converted by Roman Pavlyuchenko - proving crucial.

"I believe we gave everything, like we tend to do,'' said the Belgian. "We were organised and had good possession but it was very hard because we made one mistake with the goal.

"We did have chances and it was frustrating because we couldn't get into the match. I won't use the term cheated because it's too extreme.''

Preud'homme's side are unbeaten so far in their title defence but have drawn four of their seven games to lie fourth - one place and two points behind this weekend's opponents.

Leaders Ajax head into Sunday's encounter with FC Utrecht boosted by the news Vurnon Anita's injury is not as bad as first feared. The 21-year-old left-back was forced off with a leg injury before half-time of the Amsterdammers' 1-1 Champions League draw against AC Milan on Tuesday night.

Coach Martin Jol was concerned he could be without Anita for a lengthy period, but on further investigation he will likely only miss a few weeks.

"We feared a fracture, but it is a bruise,'' Jol told Dutch television station AT5. "Knowing Vurnon, he will be playing again quickly.''

Jol's side will go into the match having had 48 hours' more rest than opponents Utrecht, who take on Liverpool in the Europa League.

PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar are also both in Europa League action on the road and round off hectic weeks with home games against VVV Venlo and Heracles Almelo respectively.

Fred Rutten's PSV, who tackle FC Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine, are second in the standings and unbeaten in the Eredivisie but have drawn their last two games.

AZ, the 2009 champions, who play in Belarus against BATE Borisov, have enjoyed 1-0 wins in each of the past two weeks to climb to 11th.

Also on Sunday, Feyenoord visit De Graafschap and Heerenveen host ADO Den Haag. Feyenoord have collected only seven points from their first seven games and sit 13th, but coach Mario Been is not hitting the panic button just yet.

"We all know what we lack and where to improve. But still, I think we can do better than we've shown,'' he told Voetbal International. "I sense no panic among the boys. When you see them train, I have no complaints.

"It makes no sense suddenly to change things. Young players need support. Therefore, the team that will play on Sunday does not differ substantially from the one that lost to NEC Nijmegen [3-0 last Sunday].''

The weekend's action kicks off on Friday night when rock-bottom Willem II, who have yet to pick up a point this season, visit Vitesse Arnhem. On Saturday, fifth-placed Roda JC travel to Excelsior and NAC Breda host NEC Nijmegen.
