De Laurentiis: €50m not enough for Hamsik

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists he has no plans to sell highly-rated midfielder Marek Hamsik, "not even for €50 million".

Hamsik, who captained Slovakia at the 2010 World Cup, signed a new contract with Napoli last week and De Laurentiis claimed the deal proved that "Napoli wants to grow together with its talented players".

Stars such as Hamsik, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi have helped Napoli enjoy a solid start to the season, losing only once in eight games, and De Laurentiis says he has no intention of selling the club's crown jewels.

"I won't sell Hamsik not even for €50 million," De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport. "Offers always come in for Hamsik and Lavezzi. But we don't sell players who are integral to our plans, we sell players who don't fit in."

"If a crazy offer above the market value comes in ... not that €50 million for Hamsik is above the market value."

Former Slovan Bratislava star Hamsik began his career in Italy with Brescia and joined Napoli in 2007 for €5.5 million. His new contract will keep him at the club until 2015.
