Rafa Benitez rejects talk of a crisis at Inter Milan

Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez has played down talk of a crisis at the club, despite their failure to produce the same level of performance that won them the treble last season.

Benitez took over from Jose Mourinho in the summer but the Spaniard's reign thus far has been dogged by criticism and a defeat to title rivals Roma raised questions over his leadership last weekend. However, Benitez is looking to bounce back quickly against Werder Bremen in the Champions League and has rejected talk of a crisis at the San Siro.

"Crisis? I look at the league table and I can't see where the crisis is," said Benitez. "The group is united and there is the right mentality. It's easier when you win."

Benitez came under fire against Roma, not from the media, but from one of his own players, as Cristian Chivu appeared to aim an angry outburst at him on the pitch. The manager, however, took a different view of events.

"The issue with Chivu was resolved in the changing rooms, these things happen on the pitch," added Benitez. "For me the most important thing was to understand whether or not he had a point. We've spoken about it in training and now everything is fine.

"It's absolutely not a disciplinary question. Maybe it's not the best way to discuss tactics but at least we've solved it. All teams have internal problems, you need only look at the team that beat us (on Saturday).

"I've read that [Samuel] Eto'o could be a problem but I believe he could be the solution more than the problem."
