Bayern busters Mainz hail coach Tuchel

Mainz forward Karim Allagui insists coach Thomas Tuchel deserves all the credit for his side's perfect start to the season although he claims nobody at the club is getting carried away.

Mainz have won their first six league matches, beating Bayern 2-1 at the weekend thanks to a cheeky backheeled goal from Allagui. But the forward says all he and his team-mates are doing is following the orders of Tuchel to perfection.

"It is like he has a book and we are writing it for him," he explained. He gives us the task and we have to solve them. In the game against Bayern, we looked for the weakness that the coach had told us about and then we struck."

Mainz can equal Bayern and Kaiserslautern's record of seven straight wins at the start of a season by beating Hoffenheim at the weekend, but Allagui is not interested in any records and is instead keeping is feet firmly on the ground.

"To be honest, I did not know that we could equal this record," he told Sport1. "We will first let the Bayern game sink in and then the coach will prepare us for our next task.

"I don't think that we need to think about targets but rather on the next game, and that is at home to Hoffenheim. We have to carry on from where we left off. Why should we think too far and lose points?"

While Mainz may not be thinking seriously about their title hopes, 10 of their Bundesliga rivals have now tipped them to go all the way and win the league in a poll conducted by the Bild newspaper.

"Of course Mainz can win the league," said Hamburg's director of sport Bastian Reinhardt. "If they remain in this form, they can beat everybody."
