Ajax hire Bosz to replace De Boer

Redknapp backs Avram Grant for success

Harry Redknapp says it would make no sense for West Ham United to sack Avram Grant so soon after his appointment.

West Ham host Tottenham on Saturday looking to move off the foot of the table after securing their first point last week against Stoke.

There have been suggestions that Grant, who joined the Hammers from relegated Portsmouth this summer, has come under fire after the team's dismal start, but Redknapp expects the former Chelsea boss to stay at the club for a long time to come.

"I don't see why you'd give someone a job and then consider letting them go after three or four weeks," Redknapp said. "He has only just got there. That doesn't make sense.

"I'm sure he will do a good job there. I think he's there for the long-term. He'll do a good job there if he's given time."

Frederic Piquionne, who scored the opener as West Ham beat Sunderland in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, is also backing Grant to turn things around.

"Avram knows what he is doing. He is a good manager because he gives you responsibility but also every player knows what he should be doing on the pitch," he told the London Evening Standard. "It has not been easy for him but he understands the game and he doesn't panic.

"He hasn't been able to put out his strongest team yet because he has had injuries but I look around the dressing room and I see players there who are good enough to take this team up the Premier League. Last season was very difficult at Portsmouth but this is different and I can see that West Ham are a very good club."

He added: "We progress with each game and Tuesday night against Sunderland was the best because we won and we played very well. Before that we had played well enough but had missed some chances.

"Now the team have come together. It takes time but against Sunderland everything seemed to work and we scored the goals we had been threatening in previous matches.

"Tomorrow is a really important match for us - a crossroads, if you like - for everybody, because Tottenham are a very good team and we want to see how much we have improved in recent matches. If we all do the maximum, we can win this game."
