Mexes handed three-game ban
Roma defender Philippe Mexes has been slapped with a three-match ban following his sending-off in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Brescia.
Mexes has also been fined €10,000 by the Italian Football League after he lost his composure and had to be restrained by his team-mates as he attempted to attack linesman Nicola Ayroldi after being shown a red card during the game.
A statement from the league read: ''The player has been punished for incorrect behaviour towards a rival and for intimidating and using an aggressive approach towards the linesman.''
Mexes gave away a penalty in the 65th minute but Roma players were convinced the action happened outside the area and that led to angry protests. The ban is a blow for Roma coach Claudio Ranieri who will be without the defender for the games against Inter Milan, Napoli and Genoa.
Roma midfielder Simone Perrotta has also been fined 5000 euros for punching the door to the referee's changing room after the game.
Roma sporting director Daniele Prade and club executive Gian Paolo Montali have been banned from their duties until the end of the month for insulting the referee after the match. Montali was also fined €3,000.
