Hughes focused on Hibs revival, not sack calls

Hibernian manager John Hughes is focused on turning the club's fortunes around and says he is not worried by the calls for his sacking.

Supporters were vocal in their disappointment after 1-1 home draws with Inverness and Hamilton and Wednesday night's 3-1 CIS Cup loss at Kilmarnock. But, despite the fact that Hibs' winless home run has now extended to nine games, Hughes is sure his side will start to get results.

"I don't read newspapers, I just get on with it,'' he said. ''My concern is getting these boys up, getting them spirited, getting a real will to win at this club.

"What they're giving me right at this moment in time, we're just about there. We're not carrying any luck - lady luck has left us - but that's football. We're in the month of September - judge us at the end of the year where we are.

"We've played six games, we've won one, drawn two and lost three - one of which was against the Scottish champions and for an hour the game could have gone either way. I look at it more in a view where it's not all doom and gloom."

Hughes is under pressure to pick up points, but has received support from Hearts manager Jim Jefferies, who was his boss at Falkirk in the 1990s.

''Sheer determination is his biggest strength and when it comes to a test of character there is nobody with any more than Yogi (Hughes),'' Jefferies said. ''They've just got to make sure they stick with him."
