Mokotjo says Feyenoord will recover

Feyenoord defender Kamohelo Mokotjo has backed his side to bounce back from their KNVB Beker defeat at the hands of Roda JC when they travel to meet NEC Nijmegen on Sunday.

Feyenoord have had a poor start to the new season, winning just two of their six league games to lie 10th in the table, nine points off the summit - and coach Mario Been is under pressure.

They had hoped to find some respite in the cup but their 4-3 defeat on penalties on Wednesday saw them dumped out early. They have also been hit by the news that striker Jon Dahl Tomasson is likely to be on the sidelines until the new year as he continues to struggle with the thigh injury which hampered his World Cup performances for Denmark.

But Mokotjo, who made his debut on Wednesday after spending last season on loan with Excelsior, says Been's side will get back on track.

"We played some good football and should have won (against Roda),'' said the 19-year-old. "It's a big disappointment for the team that we did not. But there is plenty of the season left and it will get better, I'm sure.

"This team has quality and character. That will come out. We will be showing that in the league.''

Early leaders Ajax will look to continue their good form when they hit the road to face defending champions FC Twente in Enschede. Martin Jol's side enter the game on the back of a 2-1 win over rivals Feyenoord and a 5-0 trouncing of MVV Maastricht in the cup in midweek.

But a defeat for the leaders would hand PSV Eindhoven the chance to climb to the summit if they can secure a win at home to third-place Groningen.

PSV boss Fred Rutten faces a big decision over whether to play controversial striker Jonathan Reis, after the Brazilian was fined earlier this week for being caught drink driving.

The club have been criticised in some quarters for not sacking Reis, but the player has vowed to repay his employer's decision to allow him to remain at the Philips Stadion.

"I know that what I did was wrong. I have made a mistake and I am very sorry. I want to make amends and intend to repay the trust that the club and the officials have put in me,'' he told the club website.

Heerenveen host Roda, FC Utrecht travel to AZ Alkmaar and ADO Den Haag meet Heracles in Saturday's other games, while Sunday's remaining fixtures see VVV-Venlo meet De Graafschap, bottom side Willem II go to NAC Breda and Excelsior host Vitesse Arnhem.
