Huntelaar saves Schalke, Dortmund dominate

Klaas Jan Huntelaar's late goal gave last season's Bundesliga runners-up Schalke their first victory of the season 2-1 at 10-man Freiburg.

• Tuesday's round-up

Ivan Rakitic gave Schalke the lead after nine minutes before Papiss Demba Cisse equalised in the 69th minute. Huntelaar struck the winner in the 87th minute before Freiburg were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Ivica Banovic saw red.

Borussia Dortmund's charge up the Bundesliga continued with a dominant 5-0 home victory over Kaiserslautern for their fourth straight win.

Lucas Barrios opened the scoring in the 31st minute and Kevin Grosskreutz doubled the advantage just seven minutes later. Mats Hummels made it 3-0 in the 65th minute and Robert Lewandowski and Barrios second completed the rout. The victory gives Jurgen Klopp's team 12 points and second place in the table, three points behind surprise leaders Mainz. Kaiserslautern dropped to ninth place on seven points.

Grafite scored twice in seven second-half minutes to give Wolfsburg a 3-1 victory at Hamburg. Edin Dzeko gave Wolfsburg the lead after 15 minutes before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting equalised in the 27th minute.

However, Grafite struck in the 71st and 78th minutes for the win. Wolfsburg started the season with three straight losses but have now won their last two games for six points and 11th place. Hamburg remain in sixth with eight points.

Arturo Vidal's last-minute penalty was enough to lift Bayer Leverkusen to third table and a 1-0 win to heap more pressure upon Eintracht Frankfurt who slid to their fifth loss in six games.

Vidal swept home the spot-kick after being fouled by Patrick Ochs, who was dismissed for a second bookable offence. It was all Leverkusen deserved for a dominant second half display.

Javier Pinola's last-gasp strike gave 10-man Nurnberg their first victory of the season at the expense of Stuttgart as they won 2-1.

Julian Schieber gave Nurnberg the lead after just three minutes but the hosts went a man down in the 66th minute when Andreas Wolf was shown a second yellow card. Cacau equalised for Stuttgart in the 85th minute but Pinola snatched the points for the hosts.

Michael Frontzeck's role as Borussia Monchengladbach coach came under renewed pressure after his side blew an early lead to suffer a third straight Bundesliga defeat at home to St Pauli, losing the game 2-1.

Frontzeck's men were desperate to make up for last weekend's embarrassing 7-0 defeat at Stuttgart and started well with Marco Reus having a goal disallowed for offside then Juan Arango opening the scoring. But St Pauli stormed back after the break to claim their first win in four league games thanks to goals from Gerald Asamoah and Florian Bruns.
