Nasri hails 'wonderful prospect' Wilshere

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has tipped team-mate Jack Wilshere to become an important player for club and country after he starred in the Gunners' 4-1 Carling Cup victory over Tottenham on Tuesday.

Wilshere, who made his full England debut last month against Hungary, produced an outstanding display at White Hart Lane, bossing the midfield and providing an assist for Henri Lansbury's opener, before also setting up Andrei Arshavin for Arsenal's fourth to put the result beyond doubt.

The 19-year-old midfielder has started four of Arsenal's first seven games of the season - including the past three in a row - and has the potential to get even better, according to Nasri.

"He's a really good player," Nasri said. "Last year when he went (on loan) to Bolton it helped him because he played a lot of games with Bolton. Now he's ready to play and be a good player for Arsenal. And I think England need a player like him. Jack is a wonderful prospect for the future."

In a break from Arsene Wenger's usual tactic of fielding a second-string side in the Carling Cup, his starting line-up contained just two teenagers as he appeared to signal his intent to make a sustained challenge for the first piece of silverware on offer this season.

And Wilshere admitted that he hopes to make it all the way to Wembley with the Gunners, though he did urge a degree of restraint when discussing his side's hopes of reaching the final.

"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves," Wilshere said. "In the last couple of years we fell short. Hopefully we can concentrate on each match as they come and hopefully we can win it."
