Schalke stay rock bottom, Petric rescues HSV

Borussia Dortmund took the honours in the Westphalian derby with a 3-1 win, a scoreline which did not fully reflect their domination of the game at the home of their rivals Schalke.

Jurgen Klopp's side put on a riveting show of swift, attacking football to leave the Royal Blues without a chance until Klaas Jan Huntelaar's last-minute consolation. The untouchable Shinji Kagawa was on target twice for Dortmund with Robert Lewandowski completing the rout in the 86th minute.

Schalke ended the game with 10 men since Nicolas Plestan was given his marching orders for a second yellow card after an hour to leave them rock bottom with four defeats in four games.

Bayer Leverkusen were thwarted by a defiant Nurnberg side as they managed only a goalless draw at the BayArena.

Leverkusen moved to five points and stand eighth in the Bundesliga while Nurnberg earned their third draw in four matches and with three points they are in 16th place.

Mladen Petric's late goal secured Hamburg a point in an emotion-packed 1-1 draw at city rivals St Pauli. Fabian Boll gave the promoted side the lead in the 77th minute but Petric struck in the 88th minute to equalise for Hamburg and deny St Pauli's first derby victory over Hamburg in 33 years.
