Nicklas Bendtner rubbishes retirement rumours

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has rubbished reports that he may have to retire due to persistent injury problems.

Bendtner, who is yet to feature this season, has not specified a comeback date from his long-standing groin injury but inists rumours claiming he may have to quit football are wide of the mark.

"It's crazy to hear such stories, I can completely dismiss it." The Denmark international told Sporten.dk. "I have been worried during the injury spell, but there has never been mentioned that it could stop my career. I can't understand where this rumour comes from. It's nasty and quite shocking."

"I am looking forward now and there is a lot to look forward to," Bendtner added. "I am expecting to be fit for a comeback within a not too distant future, but I have not set a date. Arsenal and I have worked out a timetable which I am following, but we are keeping the details to ourselves."

The arrival of Marouane Chamakh from French side Bordeaux and the promising form of Carlos Vela, means Bendtner faces an uphill struggle to regain his place in the team at the Emirates, when he finally attains full fitness.
