Denilson believes young Gunners are ready

Denilson has told ESPNsoccernet that with captain Cesc Fabregas as the "top man" in world football and some summer signings bedding in nicely, he feels Arsenal are better equipped than last season to end their wait for a trophy.

Papers: Doubts over Gunners' defence

Arsene Wenger's side have certainly started the campaign in impressive fashion, winning four of their first five games in all competitions and scoring 19 goals in the process - a tally bloated by a brilliant 6-0 win over Braga on Wednesday night.

New signing Marouane Chamakh continued his record of scoring in each of his appearances at Emirates Stadium, but the star of the show in the Champions League tie was Fabregas, who scored twice and claimed two assists in a viruoso performance.

Having told their captain to forget about a move to his boyhood club Barcelona this summer, Denilson feels Arsenal are nicely poised to claim their first trophy since the FA Cup in 2005. However, given past disappointments, the Brazilian midfielder is clearly aware that there is a long way to go yet.

"A nice start, no? A very, very nice start," Denilson told ESPNsoccernet. "We have many games. But I think we need concentration now.

"We will be more experienced than last season. I believe this season because we want to win. Do we feel stronger? Yes. Everyone hopes this season because we want to win trophies. If you don't want to, what are you doing here? We have to keep it going."

Key to Arsenal's hopes will be Fabregas, who appears to have returned to his best form following a summer in which he won the World Cup with Spain and attracted unyielding speculation about his future.

When asked how Fabregas compared with the players he could have been partnering at Camp Nou, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, and where he ranked amongst the best in the world, Denilson replied: "He always comes to help us and I think this season Cesc Fabregas is the top man. I hope [he will lift a trophy]. We have to continue to play and if you win, you keep going and you have the most chance to win trophies.

"He [Fabregas] is always a fantastic player and I am very proud with him because he has helped us a lot and I have enjoyed it."

Gael Clichy, meanwhile, feels Jack Wilshere still has much to do to prove he can reach the standards Fabregas has set.

"I don't know if Jack can go on to be as good as Cesc," he said. "That's difficult to say. At the same age Cesc was already playing in the Arsenal starting XI along with people like Patrick (Vieira).

"Jack is a really good, talented player but he still has to show that he can be as good as Cesc. The talent is there, the quality is there, but there is a big step between playing a few games and being the number one, like Cesc is.

"I hope he is as good as Cesc. That would be good for the team."
