Inter Milan defender Maicon claims he was pleased to remain with the club after failing to seal a move to Real Madrid during the summer.
Maicon was the subject of interest from Spain throughout the transfer window, but negotiations could not be concluded and he was forced to remain at the San Siro. However, the Brazilian right-back admits he was quite happy to stay where he was.
"I am pleased that I remained at Inter,'' he said after the club's 2-2 draw with FC Twente. ''Last season, we won everything and I am convinced that we can do well again because the side has not changed.''
Meanwhile, Maicon's agent Antonio Caliendo feels Inter president Massimo Moratti was right to stand firm over Madrid's pursuit of the player.
"Moratti refused a big offer from Real Madrid, and so I think this was Inter's best buy of the summer market," he stated.
"I don't think keeping Maicon was a surprise because the offer from Madrid was there and it was consistent, but Moratti had a fixed price on the player. It was a position which forced Madrid to withdraw. I would have done the same as Moratti."
