Marseille duo Valbuena and Brandao pen new deals

Marseille received a double boost ahead of their Champions League opener against Spartak Moscow after strikers Mathieu Valbuena and Brandao agreed contract extensions with the club.

Valbuena, who capped an impressive display against Monaco on Sunday with a goal, has committed to the reigning champions until 2014, while Brazilian forward Brandao will remain at the Stade Velodrome until 2013.

Brandao's deal puts and end to speculation that he was set to leave the club, while Valbuena - who has been at Marseille since 2006 - was rewarded for an impressive 2009-10 title-winning campaign that also saw him receive a call-up to France's World Cup squad.

Marseille are now looking to also tie influential midfielder Edouard Cisse to a new deal and he is expected to follow his team-mates in committing to the club in the coming days.

Cisse looks certain to return to the side for the visit of Spartak in the opening round of fixtures in Champions League Group F after missing the Monaco clash through suspension.
