Ronaldo confident of European success

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has a "special feeling" about Real Madrid's chances as they seek a first Champions League title since 2002.

Madrid have been knocked out of Europe in the first knockout round in each of the last six seasons but, following another spending spree and the arrival of two-time winner Jose Mourinho this summer, they look to be in a strong position to provide a serious challenge this time around.

Ronaldo, who won the competition in 2008 with Manchester United, is confident that they can prove themselves the best in Europe, but he feels it is important not to create too much pressure for the side.

"This club, as always, has the ambition to win the Champions League," he said. "I have a special feeling about this season. We can win, but we cannot put pressure on ourselves. We have all the necessary ingredients to win the competition, but we have to take one step at a time."

Madrid have struggled to impress in their opening games this season, drawing their opener 0-0 at Real Mallorca before beating Osasuna 1-0 at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

The home fans voiced their disapproval when the game remained goalless at half-time at the weekend, but Ronaldo believes the side will click into gear and meet expectations before long.

"Mourinho is the best coach in the world and I'm sure we will win and create a spectacle," he said. "At times it isn't possible to play well and be spectacular.

"It's better for the fans to help us and motivate us to play well. Our supporters have fun when the team plays well and scores goals, but we can't thrill them with brilliance all the time. It is on occasion convenient for fans to thrill players as well. All of us at the stadium want what's best for Real Madrid and, together, we can make this a feared team at home."
