Man City linked with €50m Pastore

Manchester City are set to take on Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign Palermo playmaker Javier Pastore, according to reports in Italy.

Pastore, dubbed 'the Argentinian Kaka', joined the Serie A side from Huracan for around €6.25 million in July 2009 but Palermo president Maurizio Zamperini is demanding €50 million for the 21-year-old, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The fee would represent a new British transfer record, smashing the €42.5 million City paid for Brazilian flop Robinho in 2008.

However, Pastore admits he has ambitions to play for Barcelona, not City.

"For an Argentine to play in the La Liga is normal, especially for the language," said Pastore. "Wearing the jersey of Barcelona with Lionel Messi is a dream, but it remains such. Now I think only of Palermo and the league."

Diego Maradona handed Pastore his international debut against Canada in May 2010 and included the midfielder in his 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup.
