Bundesliga: Bayern held, Wolfsburg sunk again

Werder Bremen made it five seasons without defeat at the Allianz Arena as they held Bayern Munich to a goalless draw. • European Gallery The defending champions struggled to break down Thomas Schaaf's side and risked losing the game on several occasions. The result leaves both sides locked on four points after three games of the new season. Bremen could have gone ahead in the fifth minute. The visitors will wonder how Prodl's header did not go in as it first hit the post then rebounded off Bayern goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt onto the crossbar. Bayern's best chance came minutes later when Diego Contento's cross was just missed by Thomas Muller in front of goal.

Franck Ribery had Bayern's next chance in the 24th minute when he was played through by Ivica Olic, but the Frenchman's shot was punched over the crossbar by an alert Tim Wiese. Steve McClaren andWolfsburgare still searching for their first Bundesliga points this season after going down 2-0 at Borussia Dortmund. Nuri Sahin and Shinji Kagawa scored the goals for the Westphalians, who deserved the win which took them six points clear of their next opponents and local rivals Schalke, who have yet to get off the mark this season. Borussia Monchengladbach came crashing down to earth from the euphoria of their emphatic win in their last Bundesliga outing as Eintracht Frankfurt hit the goal trail at Borussia-Park. Gladbach hammered Bayer Leverkusen 6-3 in their last match before the international break but could not replicate that form on home turf today as a Theofanis Gekas brace and further strikes by Benjamin Kohler and Patrick Ochs brought Frankfurt their first win since April 3. Frankfurt's first win of the season lifts them into mid-table respectability, while Gladbach's maiden loss of the campaign leaves them just one point better off after three games. Hamburg dropped their first points of the season after conceding an 81st-minute Javier Pinola penalty at home to Nurnberg. Hamburg had taken the lead when their Holland international defender Joris Mathijsen scored from close range on the hour mark. But with a third consecutive victory within sight goalkeeper Frank Rost was penalised for a foul in the area and Pinola fired home to snatch a point for the visitors. Patrick Helmes grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for Bayer Leverkusen as 10-man Hannover relinquished their 100% record in a 2-2 draw. Didier Konan put the third-spotted hosts ahead after 20 minutes and they remained in the ascendancy at the interval despite the 36th-minute dismissal of Emanuel Pogatetz for a second yellow card. Hannover even went ahead five minutes after the break through Mohamed Abdellaoue, but substitute Eren Derdiyok pulled one back for Leverkusen just after the hour and Helmes' free-kick secured a dramatic point in the 90th minute. Freiburg hit back from a goal down to triumph 2-1 against strugglers Stuttgart with goals in the second half from Papiss Demba Cisse and Julian Schuster. Pavel Pogrebnyak had given Stuttgart the lead in the first half but Cisse and Schuster ensured the home side took all three points.
