Miller strikes late for Gers, Bhoys beat Hearts

Kenny Miller scored a last-gasp winner as defending champions Rangers snatched all three points with a 2-1 win against Hamilton.

With the scores level in the final minute, Walter Smith's men looked set to drop points for the first time this season, but Miller lofted the ball over Tomas Cerny to seal a late victory. New signing Nikica Jelavic had given the champions a first-half lead when he converted Kyle Lafferty's dangerous cross. But ten minutes into the second half the scores were level when Madjid Bougherra diverted Marco Paixao's cross past goalkeeper Allan McGregor into his own net.

Celtic had a decidedly easier victory as they maintained the pressure on their rivals with a 3-0 win at home to Hearts.

James Forrest put the Hoops ahead shortly before the half-hour mark and Shaun Maloney doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time before Patrick McCourt's 90th-minute strike sealed an impressive victory for Neil Lennon's men.

After two wins in their opening two games, Aberdeen suffered their second consecutive defeat after falling 3-1 to Dundee United. The home side got off to a flying start, snatching three goals inside the opening ten minutes, with Jon Daly netting after three minutes.

Mark Howard put the ball in his own net and David Goodwillie made it three when he converted the penalty after Paul Hartley had fouled Craig Conway in the box. Scott Vernon pulled one back for the Dons, but their slow start proved costly after a goalless second half.

Derek Riordan was left to rue a missed penalty after Adam Rooney's late goal salvaged a point for Inverness at Hibernian. Riordan put the home side ahead after eight minutes, and had the chance to double the lead but his missed penalty proved costly as Rooney made no mistake with his spot-kick to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Kilmarnock leap-frogged their opponents after a 2-1 win over ten-man St Mirren. James Dayton opened the scoring, but Steven Thomson equalised before Aleksei Eremenko's long-range winner. Any hopes of a St Mirren comeback were dashed when Paul McGowan was sent off for a poor challenge on Dayton.

St Johnstone remain rooted to the bottom of the table after a 2-0 defeat to Motherwell. They fell behind early to a Nick Blackman strike, and Kevin Rutkiewicz's own goal compounded his side's woes.
