Wenger: Wilshere needs to focus on his football

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes midfielder Jack Wilshere "should have been home bed" when he was involved in a nightclub fracas last month, and has urged the talented youngster to concentrate on his football.

Wilshere, 18, was arrested and bailed after an incident at 3am on August 28, hours after the Gunners' Premier League victory over Blackburn.

The precocious midfielder was dropped from the England Under-21's starting line-up for matches against Portugal and Lithuania, but coach Stuart Pearce praised Wilshere's response after he came on to help fire his side to victory.

"For a young man, who in his own mind is expecting to be playing on Friday and then on the back of that was not in the starting line-up again, he has handled that extremely well," Pearce said.

And though Wenger admitted he was surprised by Pearce's decision to drop Wilshere, he agreed that his starlet needed to learn to focus on his football.

"He should have been home in bed [when the nightclub incidnet happened]," Wenger said. "You don't make a career at the top without knowing how to behave.

"If you are a football player and you stay out half-an-hour longer than you should, it is a massive problem. [Bit] Jack is focused and I believe he was always focused.

"He wants the ball and he wants to play. It could have been a concern for Pearce, but I believe Jack Wilshere is a happy man on a football pitch."
