Palace in talks to take Toffees striker on loan

Crystal Palace are closing in on the loan signing of 22-year-old Everton striker James Vaughan.

The Eagles have confirmed on their official website that talks are well underway regarding a three-month loan deal and the striker could even make his Eagles debut against Reading at the weekend.

Manager George Burley has confirmed he is an admirer of the player who holds the record for being the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

"We think James is a very good player and we are hoping to finalise the move," Burley told the Croydon Advertiser. "It's no secret we have been looking for a striker and I think James could be the answer. He will be the final player we bring in, after this deal we will work with what we've got."

Vaughan scored on his Everton debut against Palace back in April 2005 to set a new Premier League benchmark, but a succession of injuries severely restricted his progress at Goodison.

Vaughan has spent spells on loan at Derby County and Leicester City and has made 12 league starts in his career.
