Hutton wants first-team football

Alan Hutton is desperate for Tottenham to lower his price tag so he can secure regular first-team football - but he would be reluctant to return to Rangers.

Hutton, 25, joined Spurs for a reported £9 million in January 2008, but he has struggled for first-team football at White Hart Lane and was allowed to join Sunderland on loan for the second half of last season.

However, Hutton is reluctant to continue to make loan moves and is now hoping to seal a permanent move away.

"It has been tough for me," he said in the Sunday Mail. "I was looking at options in the summer but nothing came off. I moved to Spurs for big money and, if I leave, the club will be wanting that, but it's tough to get someone to pay that kind of cash when you haven't been playing. It's not a great situation to be in. I just need to keep my head up at the moment and keep going.

"There was a lot of speculation but I have a family now and my oldest child is at school, so I can't be going here, there and everywhere on loan and unsettling them. It's a hard decision."

Rangers are reported to have shown interest in re-signing the player, but Hutton has played down talk that he could return to Scotland.

"I heard the Rangers rumour but whether it's true or not I don't know," he said. "At the moment, I'd like to stay down in England. I have a lot to prove and a lot to offer down there, so my heart is set on doing well down south.

"I have a massive amount of unfinished business. Even at Spurs, I feel that way. I had a really good first six months then got injured and went through a change of manager. It was tough.

"It has been a rocky road down there but while I believe I have a lot to offer I'll just keep plugging away, but I want something sorted, one way or another, as soon as possible.

"In this day and age, you're not going to get clubs paying that sort of money for a right back but if it gets to January and I haven't played a lot then how can they ask so much? So surely it has to drop. Hopefully it will be in my favour then.

"No way is there that kind of money going around just now - unless it's Man City or Chelsea - so I have to hope the asking price will drop."

Hutton is hopeful that Spurs will need to make more use of their squad players as a result of their qualification for the group stage of the Champions League, but he admits there is a concern that Harry Redknapp has already made his mind up about him.

"You never know what is happening with the manager. I have to train hard and do well when I get a chance in games. If I am not playing, I still give my all in training. If I need to play in reserve games, that's what I will do.

"I just want to play every game. I thought I was in with a great shout at the start of the season, but the team has been doing well. When I was out injured, Spurs were winning and it was hard to get back in.

"The club has the Champions League this season so that's a new demand. There are going to be a lot of games this term so hopefully I'll get a chance soon and prove to the manager what I can bring to the team.

"It's in the back of my mind the gaffer has already made up his mind about me. I've been thinking about that. If that's the case, I will have to wait until January and get a move - then it's a case of showing everybody that this is what you let go."
