Cambiasso defends Inter approach

Midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has rejected suggestions Inter are an ultra-defensive side.

Cambiasso was a key figure for Inter as they won Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, but there have been those who have criticised the side for playing 'anti-football'.

Cambiasso admits Inter may not play with as much style as Barcelona, but he insists the attacking element of the Nerazzurri's game should not be underestimated.

"Everyone who plays football would like to play like Barcelona or Spain, who focus on possession and spectacle, but it's not true that in Italy, and specifically Inter, we defend and do nothing else," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"You cannot win every trophy available by just sitting there waiting for your opponents. We know when it's the right moment to attack and the moment to defend."

Meanwhile, Samuel Eto'o has defended Rafael Benitez after after Inter lost the UEFA Super Cup to Atletico Madrid and then drew their opening Serie A match 0-0 at Bologna.

"Our squad is growing exponentially and I can guarantee that Benitez is a great coach," he said. "We will do very well together.

"I think you all saw Bologna-Inter and realise it was a game that should've ended 5-0 for us, but their goalkeeper, Emiliano Viviano, was truly incredible."
