Dawson will miss at least six weeks

Tottenham have confirmed Michael Dawson will be out of action for six to eight weeks after he suffered ligament damage in his knee and ankle on international duty.

Dawson suffers injury blow

Dawson made his first start for England as they beat Bulgaria 4-0 in their Euro 2012 qualifier, but he had to be stretchered off early in the second half after an awkward turn.

A statement on Spurs' official website read: "Scans today (Saturday) have revealed that Michael Dawson has sprained his left medial knee ligament and one of his left ankle ligaments.

"The defender has been withdrawn from the England squad after suffering the injuries during last night's 4-0 European Championship qualifying win against Bulgaria at Wembley and is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks."

Dawson will miss at least three group matches in the Champions League for his club, which leaves Harry Redknapp with potential selection issues given Ledley King's continued fitness problems and Jonathan Woodgate's career-threatening injuries.

England will not call up a replacement for Dawson despite their upcoming qualifier in Switzerland on Tuesday.
