Arbeloa: Spain can handle pressure

Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa believes he and his team-mates are comfortable with the pressure of playing as reigning world and European champions and is confident that they are capable of winning even more silverware together.

Vicente del Bosque's side take on Liechtenstein on Friday in their opening European Championship qualifier, and though Arbeloa recognised that Spain are overwhelming favourites for the match, the Real Madrid right-back insisted they will take nothing for granted.

"Clearly we are superior to Liechtenstein, but we also know that, day in day out, you can never relax," Arbeloa told EFE news agency.

"Nothing has changed since we have become world champions, but even at the World Cup we felt as though we were the team to beat. We are aware that from now on this is even higher. But we are not comfortable in this role."

And Arbeloa believes that Spain's World Cup success has merely whetted the players' appetite for silverware ahead of the defence of their European Championship crown.

"After experiencing how beautiful it was [to win the World Cup], we want to repeat it. We are a very humble team that plays every game to win. There will be new challenges, such as staying on our European throne. It is a very nice target."
