SuperSport want 'better offer' for Khumalo

SuperSport United have urged Tottenham to make a "better offer" for South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo if they are to have any chance of signing him in the January transfer window.

• Khumalo claims Spurs contact

Khumalo, 23, impressed for Bafana Bafana at this summer's World Cup and is believed to have caught Harry Redknapp's eye during a recent trial at Spurs. But a move to White Hart Lane was not agreed before the summer transfer window shut because SuperSport were not happy with the offer on the table from Spurs.

And SuperSport chairman Khulu Sibiya insists Khumalo will be going nowhere if Spurs fail to increase their offer in January.

"This is not a foregone conclusion and Tottenham will have to pitch a new and better offer during the next transfer window," Sibiya told the Sowetan. "Negotiations will open then.

"People have very short memories when it comes to these kind of things. I can assure you that Bongani will look back and thank us. I am of the opinion that the player has a lot of potential and if he is patient and concentrates on cementing his place in the national team he will go far.

"I feel sure that in a few months Bongani's stature will have risen and he will secure himself an even better overseas move."
