Kingson has point to prove after joining Blackpool

Ghana international Richard Kingson says he is determined to prove himself in the Premier League after signing for Blackpool.

The goalkeeper was a surprise inclusion in Blackpool's 24-man squad submitted to the Premier League on Wednesday evening and the club only formally confirmed his arrival on Thursday.

But having spent underwhelming spells with both Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic, whom he left as a free agent at the end of last season, Kingson is hoping to establish his reputation in England.

"I have to prove myself in the Premier League," Kingson said. "It is an unfulfilled mission for me."

Kingson was Ghana's No. 1 goalkeeper at the World Cup finals as the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals, only to lose to Uruguay on penalties.

He has signed a one-year contract with the option for a further year, although he must still wait for confirmation of his work permit.

"Richard flew in from Ghana on Wednesday morning, completed his medical and paperwork before heading back out on Thursday morning to link up with his national team ahead of their game on Sunday with Swaziland," club secretary Matt Williams told the club's official website.

"We are currently waiting for confirmation of the player's work permit and the usual clearances from the FA and PL, but we are delighted to welcome Richard aboard."
