Lyon have announced the loan signing of defender Pape Diakhate from Dynamo Kiev.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were said to be interested in the 26-year-old Senegal international, but the French side have moved to strengthen their defence having been impressed by his performances for Saint-Etienne on loan last season.
"This club will allow me to grow and progress," Diakhate told the club's official website. "I think that there was no better choice for me and my family. I know the players from previous games, but I have long known [Bafetimbi] Gomis. We are very close."
Asked about his style of play, he said: "I am a defender who likes to defend, who loves battling. I try to be uncompromising."
The club are also set to sign free agent Laurent Bonnart after he was released by Marseille. The 30-year-old full-back would be Les Gones' fourth signing of the summer.
