Want-away Robinho confirms desire to join Milan

Manchester City misfit Robinho is at AC Milan to undergo a medical and tie up a deal with the Italian side, although negotiations are being held up over the fee.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has authorised an offer, which is only a loan deal with an option to buy the Brazilian for a mere 15 million euros, for the player who cost City a British record £32 million just two years ago.

The Italian club are refusing to pay Robinho all of his £150-000-a-week salary and want City to subsidise the wages. City, though, have put a price of 25 million euros on Robinho's head, still a massive hit on the player, but still far too high for Milan.

The Brazilian confirmed his desire to move to Italy when quizzed by reporters in Milan.

''I want to play for Milan because they are an excellent team and I want to win so much in these colours. I chose Milan because they are an excellent team with great players and my goal is to win things,'' he said. ''I hope to show that our attack is the strongest in Europe. I haven't spoken to Pato or Ronaldinho yet, but I hope the negotiation ends well and I can't wait to meet them. To the fans I say that I am very happy.''

An insider close to the deal told Soccernet: "It has to be sorted out as there is nowhere else for Robinho to go. Robinho wants to go to Milan and City want him to go but there is a big difference in what Milan are prepared to offer and what City want.

"It is quite interesting when you think back about how Berlusconi demanded 105 million euros from City if they wanted to buy Kaka, not that the player wanted to go there, but now Milan are offering such a small amount for another player who is a fixture in the Brazilian national team!"

Meanwhile, City have confirmed that midfielder Adam Clayton has joined Leeds United on a permanent deal.
