Benitez believes Inter are making progress

Rafael Benitez feels his Inter team is improving despite having to settle for a 0-0 draw at Bologna on Monday.

Bologna 0-0 Inter

Benitez saw his new side go down to a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Friday night and, while his strike-force failed to find a way past Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano on his Serie A debut, he feels progress is being made.

"The second half today was definitely better than the other day," he told Sky Italia. "Milito, Eto'o and Sneijder did better, and so did the goalkeeper.

"Milito was subbed because he was tired, and only for this reason. Not because he didn't do well. In the second half, we did everything we needed to do. It's clear that we lack a bit of freshness, but I'm pleased with the team's character and reaction in the second half.

"I hope we can keep improving, but everyone has to understand that if we want to have more ball possession, we need more time to work. Viviano saved everything today: with his head, his hand, with everything."

Asked whether Inter would make any new signings on Tuesday, Benitez said: "We will see what can be done now. If not, we will wait until January to see if we can give this team more equilibrium."
