A much-changed Celtic side had the better of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash but struggled to get past Darren Randolph before the influential Shaun Maloney won a penalty from Steven Saunders.

Saunders was sent off and Motherwell failed to recover from the blow as Murphy stroked home the 73rd-minute spot-kick.

Craig Dargo's second-half goal gave St Mirren their first victory of the season at the expense of Hibernian, as they ran out 1-0 winners.

The striker netted from a Garry Brady free-kick just before the hour, following a challenge on Gareth Wardlaw, to move Danny Lennon's side off the bottom of the table.

Dundee United substitute Morgaro Gomis scored a late wonder strike to give the visitors a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Hearts.

In a chaotic week that saw the Tannadice club knocked out of the Europa League by AEK Athens, Gomis struck an unstoppable 25-yard drive high into the net to cancel out David Templeton's first half goal. The equaliser came minutes after Hearts goalkeeper Marian Kello saved Jon Daly's spot-kick.
