Bologna sack Colomba ahead of Inter game
Bologna have sacked coach Franco Colomba on the eve of his team's Serie A opener against Inter Milan.
Colomba guided Bologna to a 17th-place finish last season but became the first managerial casualty of the 2010-11 campaign in Italy.
''It's a decision made by the club and that's it,'' said Colomba. ''Now they (the club) will talk and eventually I will.''
Bologna president Sergio Porcedda held a press conference to explain the club's unexpected decision.
''Colomba has been dismissed mainly because he was sceptical of the team,'' he said. ''The end of this relationship is a decision taken directly by me. From a human standpoint, I am very saddened. What is certain is that on Wednesday I will reveal the new coach.''
Former PAOK coach Mario Beretta and ex-Siena tactician Alberto Malesani are reportedly candidates for the job.
