Lorient claim Lyon scalp

Christian Gourcuff spoiled his son Yoann's Lyon debut as his Lorient side notched a notable 2-0 victory at the Stade du Moustoir.

Gourcuff junior, who moved to the Stade Gerland from Bordeaux this week, came on after 30 minutes as a substitute for the injured Cesar Delgado, but by that time his side were already 1-0 down, courtesy of Kevin Gameiro's penalty.

And it got worse for Lyon, who were left with just one win for their opening four games, as Lynel Kitambala grabbed a second after 65 minutes.

Toulouse eased to their fourth straight win at the start of the Ligue 1 season after second-half goals from Etienne Capoue and Franck Tabanou secured victory over Nancy.

Nancy had the better of the first half and hit the crossbar shortly before half-time through Jordan Loties' header. But they were made to regret that near miss as Toulouse continued their imperious form and opened up an early four-point lead at the summit.

Dimitri Payet's hat-trick earned St Etienne their second victory, a 3-1 win, of the fledgling season over Lens, despite the late sending-off of Sylvain Marchal.

Payet struck after five minutes and sealed the victory with two goals in the final 12 minutes. Marchal collected a needless second yellow with a minute remaining for pushing Issam Jemaa, who then pulled a stoppage-time goal back.

Montpellier continued their strong start to the season as Olivier Giroud's first-half goal was enough to beat Valenciennes 1-0 at the Stade Nungesser.

Giroud scored with a diving header in the 28th minute as Montpellier dominated the play, although they breathed a sigh of relief after Gaetan Bong's thunderous strike came back off the crossbar a minute from time.

Late goals from Nolan Roux (75) and Mario Licka (78) earned Caen a 2-0 win against Brest at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano.
