Adebayor ready to leave City

Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he is ready to quit Manchester City due to his limited first-team opportunities.

Adebayor, 26, appears to have slipped down the pecking order at Eastlands, playing just seven minutes of City's opening two Premier League fixtures, and reports have linked the striker with Real Madrid and Juventus.

Adebayor insists he is willing to battle for his place at City should he stay but says he will "definitely" leave if an offer comes in.

"The season is going to be very long and very difficult for myself," he told talkSPORT. "I'm a footballer and have to keep going and not give up. I need to keep fighting for myself and enjoying my football.

"If you're in a team and you're not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I'm a footballer and I love playing.

"If I don't have a chance to play here, there will be a lot of chance to play somewhere else. If they [City] force you out then you always have to follow your destiny."

Reacting to Adebayor's comments, and interest shown in Robinho, City's football administrator Brian Marwood said: "We are no different to any club, they have signed the contract and made a commitment to the football club until both parties decide that they won't be at the club any longer.

"They have to remain professional, they have a contract and they have certain obligations to the football club."

Roberto Mancini has indicated that Roque Santa Cruz could also move on, with Lazio and Fulham showing interest.

"I think if Roque wants to stay I'm happy, but Roque is a good guy, a good player," he said. "Like Shay [Given] - he wants to play. I think that if Roque finds a good situation for him, he can go."

Marwood also defended City's £126 million transfer spree this summer which led United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to brand it "kamikaze'' spending.

Marwood said: "There are a lot of things that people are misinformed about without knowing the true facts. We try to educate people about what is happening here but it has become laughable some of the comments that have been made about the club. People working here know what is going on, they know the direction we are heading and I am confident we will reach those goals.

"We have fast-tracked the investment and maybe what would normally take five or 10 years we have done much sooner. But we are extremely fortunate that we have the owners to invest their time and money into the club. Eighteen months ago we were fighting a relegation battle. The club and the team needed this investment.''
