Crouch wants Real and Inter in UCL group

Peter Crouch is hoping Tottenham get Real Madrid and Inter Milan in Thursday's draw for the group stage of the Champions League after his hat-trick helped Spurs romp to a play-off victory over Young Boys.

Jermain Defoe added a contentious strike to Crouch's goals as Tottenham won 4-0 (6-3 on aggregate) at White Hart Lane, the venue Crouch wants to see Europe's biggest clubs visit in the coming months.

The eight groups will be drawn in Monaco on Thursday and Crouch believes the fans will be happy to avoid an 'easy' draw if it means Tottenham can host the likes of Real and Inter in what is a rare chance to mix it at the highest level.

"We want massive games," said Crouch. "We want Real Madrid and Inter. You don't know how good you are until you play against the best. This is massive. We played extremely well and we deserved the bonus of Champions League football. This is what we worked so hard for last season."

Crouch admitted he may have disobeyed manager Harry Redknapp's orders when he completed his hat-trick with a penalty earned by Gareth Bale, who assisted in all four goals.

"I think Harry was expecting Roman Pavlyuchenko to take the penalty but there was no way I wasn't going to take it," he said. "I have never scored a hat-trick in Europe before so it was a sweet moment."

Defoe admitted he handballed in the lead up to his goal, where he used his arm to help guide the ball into his path outside the box. He still had to unleash a powerful left-footed strike that nicked in off the inside of the left upright.

"It was handball for my goal, yes," Defoe said. "The linesman didn't see it, though, and sometimes it goes your way. It was a great performance. The hard work was put in last season and it has paid off now. We know we can play on this stage. It means the world to us."

Tottenham have been placed in Pot 3 for the Champions League group stage draw.
