Hughes confirms Fulham interest in Salcido

Fulham manager Mark Hughes has confirmed he is hoping to sign Carlos Salcido, though any deal for the Mexico left-back will not automatically spell the end of Paul Konchesky's time at the club.

Konchesky has been targeted by former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson, who is keen to bring the player to Liverpool in order to provide competition for Fabio Aurelio and Daniel Agger.

Fulham appear to be lining up a replacement in Salcido, 30, who impressed at the World Cup finals and currently represents Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. He has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool.

While Hughes is "hopeful" of signing Salcido, he would not confirm that Konchesky is heading out of Craven Cottage.

"We have made enquiries," Hughes said. "He is a player I am interested in and we are hopeful it might be concluded.

"We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left back is a position we are a little light in. It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."
