Hammers midfielder Diamanti signs for Brescia

West Ham striker Alessandro Diamanti has joined Serie A newcomers Brescia after requesting a move back to his home country.

Diamianti joins the Italian side for a fee of £1.8 million after failing to settle in London. As part of the deal, West Ham will receive a futher £245,000 if Brescia avoid relegation this season. The 27-year-old joined from Livorno a year ago and scored eight goals in 29 appearances for the Hammers.

He was on the bench for West Ham's opening day defeat away to Aston Villa but missed Saturday's home defeat by Bolton Wanderers after flying back to Italy for talks with his new club.

A statement on West Ham's website read: "West Ham United can confirm the transfer of Alessandro Diamanti to Serie A newcomers Brescia Calcio for €2.2 million.

"This Saturday would have marked a year since Diamanti arrived at the club for an undisclosed fee from AS Livorno Calcio but he had indicated he wanted to return to Italy.

"The sale also releases space in the squad for another player to be brought in as the club is restricted to 25 players over 21, of which only 17 can be non-homegrown.

"The Hammers ... could unveil more exciting new faces before the transfer window shuts a week today [Tuesday]. All at West Ham United would like to wish Alessandro well for the future and thank him for his efforts in his year at the club."
