New Zealand World Cup star Shane Smeltz is set to complete a move to Turkish Super League side Genclerbirligi after a transfer agreement was reached with Gold Coast United on Tuesday.
Smeltz, who scored in a 1-1 draw with Italy in South Africa in June, has travelled to Ankara to undergo a medical and finalise discussions on a two-year deal.
"Naturally, we will be sorry to see Shane go, but we are pleased that he may now be able to pursue his dream of playing with a major overseas club,'' Gold Coast chief executive Clive Mensink said.
"He has been the subject of constant transfer speculation since he returned from China, but to his credit has remained focussed on his job at Gold Coast United.''
The 28-year-old enjoyed a prolific campaign for Gold Coast last season, finishing as the A-League's top scorer.
