Bayern Munich's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has criticised want-away defender Martin Demichelis for refusing to sit on the bench at the weekend.
Demichelis appears intent on a move away from the German champions this summer after being told by coach Louis van Gaal that he is no longer first choice at the heart of the defence as Daniel van Buyten and Holger Badstuber are currently favourites.
He requested not to be included in the matchday squad for the Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg at the weekend after learning that he would not be in the starting XI and he now looks set to leave with reports of interest from Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
According to Beckenbauer, it would not be such a great loss were the 29-year-old to leave.
''He has very often contributed to things not going too well for us in the past,'' said Beckenbauer on Sky television. ''My word, there have been plenty of errors from him in recent years.
''He is an excellent player, but he just wants to play in the centre of the defence because then he does not have to do much running.''
