PSV plan to keep Toivonen

PSV Eindhoven have told Liverpool they have no intention of selling striker Ola Toivonen this summer.

• Preview: Man City v Liverpool
• Poulsen: Reds can challenge

Liverpool are strongly rumoured to be interested in Sweden striker Toivonen, 24, and his PSV team-mate Carlos Salcido. Academy ambassador Kenny Dalglish was reported to have been in the stands at the Phillips Stadion on Sunday as PSV beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1.

However, when asked about the situation, PSV sporting director Marcel Brands told fotbollskanalen.se: "I also read about that (Dalglish's trip) in the newspaper, but I didn't see him at the stadium and it is not important. We don't want to lose Ola during this transfer window.

"They called us last Thursday, in the morning, and asked how much we wanted for Ola Toivanen, but our answer was clear: we will not sell him at this point. We have not heard from them since.

"To have people from other clubs in the stands is quite normal. PSV are a big club and we get visits like that every week."

PSV boss Fred Rutten added: "I expect Ola to stay with us this season."

Roy Hodgson watched Toivonen first-hand when Sweden beat Scotland 3-0 last week.

Juventus striker David Trezeguet - who won Euro 2000 with France - could also be an option for the Reds. His agent claims that Liverpool have shown an interest in the 32-year-old.

"An interest of Liverpool? There are requests, not just from Liverpool," Caliendo told calciomercato.it."In Spain there is the interest of Real Zaragoza and Hercules. We are considering [offers], today [Monday] is a day of reflection, we will know more tomorrow."
