Pulis: Striker Crouch too expensive for Stoke

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis says the club will not be able to finance a move for Peter Crouch, despite reports that they have targeted the Tottenham striker.

Stoke may be forced to strengthen their attacking options as it is feared that Mamady Sidibe snapped his Achilles tendon in Saturday's game against Tottenham. The striker could well miss the remainder of the season if scans confirm the worst.

But if Pulis is pressed into signing a new striker, it is unlikely that he will pursue Crouch, who joined Tottenham for £9 million in July 2009.

"No, we wouldn't be able to afford Peter Crouch," Pulis told Sky Sports News.

"We were looking at four [signings] before Mama [Sidibe] got injured, but there will be players leaving as well and we are hoping the next ten days will be a busy ten days for everyone connected with the football club.

"Again there's been loads of speculation about loads of players leaving and for people to be moving on to do deals you have to have happy parties, have two clubs agree on deal and the player has to be happy to move.

"There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and whether Tuny [Tuncay] is one of them we will have to wait and see."

It was Crouch who got his body behind the ball to prevent a late goal for Stoke on Saturday as Tottenham beat Pulis' side 2-1.
