Rubin Kazan close gap on Zenit

Defending champions Rubin Kazan closed the gap on Premier Liga leaders Zenit St Petersburg to four points with a 2-0 home win over 10-man Saturn Moscow on Sunday.

Cristian Noboa opened the scoring with a 33rd-minute penalty and, after the visitors had Andrei Karyaka dismissed seven minutes after the break, Aleksei Medvedev sealed the win with a second for Rubin in the 68th minute.

Zenit, however, have two games in hand on reigning champions Rubin who remain their closest challengers.

Dinamo Moscow were 3-0 winners over city rivals Lokomotiv thanks to a brace from Kevin Kuranyi, their summer signing from Schalke, and a 90th-minute effort from Edgaras Cesnauskis a minute after coming on. Lokomotiv had half-time substitute Dmitri Tarasov sent off in the 87th minute.

Igor Shevchenko scored in Sibir Novosibirsk's 1-0 win over Amkar Perm while Alania Vladikavkaz and Anzhi Makhachkala drew 0-0.

A seven-minute hat-trick from Welliton gave Spartak Moscow a 4-2 win over Tomsk on Saturday.

The game exploded into life after a goalless first half as the Brazilian scored in the 52nd, 55th and 58th minutes to put his side firmly in control.

Sergey Kornilenko pulled one back after 68 minutes and he grabbed a second from the spot in stoppage time as Spartak goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov saw red, three minutes after Alex had re-established the three-goal lead.

Terek Grozny won 3-1 at struggling Krylya Sovetov in Saturday's other game.
