Miller the hero as Rangers climb up to second

Kenny Miller scored a second half hat-trick as Rangers maintained their 100% winning start to the season by beating Hibernian 3-0 in an ill-tempered affair at Easter Road.

After a goalless first-half - that saw Kyle Lafferty and Kevin McBride both shown red for dissent - Rangers came alive and went ahead in the 64th minute.

James Beattie collected the ball on the left hand side and, after turning smartly, picked out an unmarked Miller, who passed the ball high into the net past Mark Brown.

The champions weren't finished there and six minutes later Miller doubled their lead. Slovakia World Cup star Vladimir Weiss traded a swift one-two with Steven Davis before the debutant laid the ball on a plate for Miller, who lashed home against his former club.

Miller completed his hat-trick, the third of his career, in the second minute of injury-time to catapult Walter Smith's side into second in the table, while the defeat sees Hibs slip to fifth.

Celtic made it two wins on the spin with a 4-0 mauling of St Mirren at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon was immediately vindicated for naming such a bold, attacking line-up when Joe Ledley fired the home side in front after five minutes.

St Mirren recovered from their shaky start only for Shaun Maloney to extend Celtic's lead. Marc-Antoine Fortune whipped in a cross and Maloney did the rest - although there was a strong case for Saints' John Potter getting the last touch.

James Forrest bagged his second goal for the club before Ki Sung-Yong wrapped up proceedings with a fine long-range effort.

Nick Blackman's first goal for Motherwell was enough to earn them their first league win of the season as Kilmarnock's struggles continued.

With one eye on Thursday's return Europa League qualifier against Odense, Craig Brown rang the changes at Rugby Park. And after two defeats on the bounce, the four new faces he brought in had the desired effect on the team, as the visitors earned a vital three points.

Two goals from Adam Rooney helped Inverness inflict a 4-0 thrashing on Dundee United at Tannadice. The visitors, who lost to Celtic last weekend, were without injured captain Richie Foran but they didn't miss him as they took all three points.

Kevin McCann opened the scoring with a 30-yard screamer before Rooney scored the first of his two goals following great work from Eric Odhiambo. Russell Duncan got in on the act, but Inverness' hero, Rooney, thumped in a late penalty to steal the headlines.
