Liverpool send Aquilani on loan to Juventus

Liverpool have announced an agreement with Juventus for Alberto Aquilani to return to Serie A on loan this season.

• Hodgson: Inter won't buy from us

Aquilani will join The Old Lady for a year in a bid to gain regular first-team football after arriving from Roma a year ago to replace Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso for £20 million.

Persistent injury problems limited his impact under previous boss Rafael Benitez, who has since been replaced by Roy Hodgson, and Aquilani has found himself surplus to requirements with Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen arriving.

A statement on the Liverpool website read: ''Liverpool and Juventus have agreed a one-year loan deal for Alberto Aquilani. The midfielder will undergo a medical in Italy on Monday.''
