Sunderland's Kilgallon joins Middlesbrough on loan
Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, the Championship club have confirmed.
Sunderland disciplinary concerns
Kilgallon, 26, goes straight into the squad for Sunday's game against Sheffield United and manager Gordon Strachan revealed that Boro tried to sign Kilgallon in January.
"Matt can play left-back as well as centre-back," said Strachan. "He gives us height as well as experience. There's a hunger there. I've explained to him that we're probably looking at a certain position to start with and we'll se how it goes from there."
Kilgallon began his career with Leeds United before moving on to the Blades for a fee rising to £2 million, but after moving to Sunderland eight months ago, he has failed to hold down a first-team place.
With the return of John Mensah on loan from Lyon and the arrivals of Nedum Onuoha and Titus Bramble at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has allowed Kilgallon to move to the Championship club.
