Santos offer new deal to Chelsea target Neymar

Santos have reportedly offered a new deal to striker Neymar in an attempt to hold off interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea have already had bids rejected for the Brazilian and it was reported on Wednesday that they would be making a final offer of £25 million.

News of Santos offering the 18-year-old a new contract would suggest they hope to tie him to the club and end interest from the Premier League. But if the player turns down the deal then it is almost certain they would have to sell.

Santos president Alvaro Luis De Oliveira was quoted as saying: "We have offered the boy a new contract - here you can earn a lot as a true idol in Brazil.

"I hope that before the weekend his agent will give us a definitive answer but we are not pressing. I do not know what will happen - the decision is in Neymar's hands now."

Neymar has already been warned by several high profile names, including Pele and Brazil coach Mano Menezes, that he should remain with Santos at this stage of his footballing development.
