Premier Showdown - Aug 14-16

Welcome back for a new season of Premier Showdown. Dale Johnson is yet again our champion and we head into the 2010-11 campaign, but Tommy Smyth's performance last season must give him hope of a first ever title. It's been a disappointing couple of seasons for the Rest of the World, our team of readers who take on the experts every week, so perhaps this season will see a return to former glories. Joining us for the first round of the new season is Matt Curry who lives in Carmel, in the United States. He tells us: "COYB! Everton all the way! Let's avoid another slow start to the season on the way to a top drawer finish for the year! Why the Blues? Timmy Howard, my favourite player, but God you have to love so many of the other characters on that team. "I'm a 50-year-old football fanatic, I follow the Premier League and internationals closely. Long ago lived across the street from the Betzenberg Stadium in Kaiserslautern, which turned an interest into a passion. I've managed to do quite well with my fantasy football recently - 275th on ESPN with my Bad Dream Team for the World Cup." Interesting, so will he have the knowledge to get the ROTW off to a flyer?

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the Showdown result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the Rest of the World tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared.
