Fulham sign up AZ Alkmaar forward Dembele

Fulham have reinforced their attacking options with the signing of Belgium forward Moussa Dembele from AZ Alkmaar.

• Hughes goes Dutch for first signing

Dembele, 23, has signed a three-year deal at Craven Cottage and will compete with established first-choice striker Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson for a place in Mark Hughes' side.

The AZ star had been in talks with Birmingham City and also attracted interest from West Ham this summer.

"I am very happy to join Fulham and look forward to training with the team to prepare for the first home game of the season," Dembele told the club's official website. "It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and I will make sure that I make the most of this opportunity.

"I understand that Fulham has a strong squad, so I am prepared to work hard for the manager and take my chance to impress him, and my teammates, when the opportunities arise."

Hughes added: "I'm glad that we have finalised the deal with Moussa Dembele and I would like to welcome him to the club. It is important that we go into the season with some additions to the squad that will add strength and depth to enable us to compete at a consistently high level throughout the season.

"Moussa is strong and quick and will add another dimension to our attacking options, which is important for us. I look forward to working with him, and to hopefully, a few more additions before the window closes."

Dembele has spent the past four seasons at AZ, scoring 24 goals in 118 games in the Eredivisie. He joined AZ from Willem II in the summer of 2006.
