Kenwyne Jones injury only 'minor'

Stoke City's record signing Kenwyne Jones could be back in action in a matter of days after scans confirmed he suffered only minor ligament damage to his right ankle.

Jones made an £8 million switch from Sunderland last week but his debut lasted barely 10 minutes on Saturday after he limped away from a tackle by Wolves defender Jody Craddock.

There were fears he was facing an extended spell on the sidelines but a series of tests to assess the extent of the injury revealed only minor ligament damage.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis said: "The news is as good as we could have expected in the circumstances. We were obviously very concerned about the extent of the damage.

"But the tests have shown only minor ligament damage. We will assess Kenwyne's progress over the next few days so it is hard to say how long he will be out. We are talking days, though, not weeks or months."

Stoke's next match is against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium but whether Jones will be considered remains to be seen.
