Bremen: No improved offer for Real target Ozil
Werder Bremen are adamant they have not received an improved offer from Real Madrid for playmaker Mesut Ozil, describing the Spanish club's opening gambit as "risible".
Madrid-based newspaper Marca reported that having failed with an offer of €9 million for the player whose contract expires at the end of the season, Real would return with an improved bid of €14 million.
But Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs says there has been no renewed interest in Ozil, who was named on the shortlist for the Golden Ball award at the World Cup finals.
"There is nothing new. I have already said the offer is unacceptable, I might say risible," Allofs said. "Mesut is under contract with Werder and I believe he will remain so.
"We have not received a new offer and we rejected the first."
It is reported that Bremen are seeking €16 million for Ozil, who has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Manchester United this summer.
Bremen play Sampdoria in the Champions League on Wednesday and if Ozil makes an appearance, he will be cup-tied for any possible suitors for the remainder of the season.
